Peoria Jaycees Terms To Know

PMG (Project Management Guide) – This is the document that you use to plan a project. It gives the board and the chapter a detailed description of what the project is, what supplies will be needed, how much the project will cost, etc. 

Keyman Award – An award bestowed upon those individuals who have made a significant impact on the chapter and best exemplifies “service to humanity is the best work of life.” This award is voted on by members.

Rooster – The name given to Jaycees members who are over the age of 40. 

GA (General Assembly) – Meeting of all of the Illinois Jaycee chapters.  Free trainings are provided as well as a banquet and awards ceremony.  This happens three times a year.

TOYP (Ten Outstanding Young People) – Chapter’s nominate outstanding young people between the ages of 18 – 40 on the basis of their achievements in a number of categories. The Illinois Jaycees provides an award ceremony during the GA to celebrate the top nominees.

POC (Parade of Chapters) – Every chapter earns “points” throughout the year based on number of projects as well as a few other factors.  The chapter with the top points is awarded at a year end banquet.

Monthly Jaycees Events

Membership Meeting– This is our general meeting to keep members informed of the events that are happening in the chapter.  Generally, we meet on every 3rd Thursday of the month (this can change though so check the schedule!)

Board Meeting– The directors of the board meet to discuss what it going on in the chapter.  This meeting occurs on the 1st Tuesday of the month.

Happy Hour – The first Friday of the month, members go out to eat and have a few drinks or have an activity like music bingo. Basically a social gathering with NO AGENDA!

Book Club – Each month members can read a book and discuss it at a local restaurant. Books are chosen a few months in advance to give people time to read them. The group meets the last Tuesday of the month.

Past (and maybe Future) Jaycees Events

Holiday Party (Jan) – We celebrate the holidays and the end of the year by having a fancy party.

Super Fest (Jan/Feb) – Members gather together and have a party while watching the Super Bowl.

Adopt A Highway – Three times a year members go out to a stretch of Radnor Road in Peoria and clean it up.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade (March) – A group of members will walk in the parade and show their Jaycee’s pride.

Easter Egg Hunt (March/April) – Members go to a local school and have a Easter Egg Hunt for students.

Beer Fest Pub Crawl (April) – We spread the word at several different bars about the upcoming Beer Fest.

International Beer Festival (IBF) (April) – A two day event that promotes all that is good about craft beer. It is our biggest event.

WTVP Auction (April) – Members volunteer by answering phones during the WTVP Auction.

Scholarship Reception (June) – A new event as of this year; it is a celebration to the school students who were awarded a Jaycees scholarship.

Firecracker 5000 (July 4th) – Our annual 5K to celebrate the 4th of July.

Past President’s Party (Aug) – A celebration or “roast” of all of the past Jaycees Presidents.

Das Bier Run (Sept) – A 5K that takes place during Oktoberfest in Peoria.

Night Golf (Oct) – Golfing while it’s dark out by using glow in the dark equipment. It is a memorial tournament for Dubby Janosov, a former member who passed away.

Elections (Nov) – The elections for new members to take office are held after our membership meeting.

Craft Beer & Recipe Swap (Nov) – Bring your favorite craft beer, dish, and recipe of your choosing to share at a member’s house.

Deck The Bars (Dec)- A holiday spin on minute-to-win it games combined with holiday drink specials and costume contests in a bar crawl across Peoria Heights.

Santa’s Little Helpers (Dec) – The Jaycees invite several kids from a local school to breakfast, and then take them to Wal-Mart where the kids can buy presents for their family.  We then help the kids wrap the presents.

Santa Visits Kids (Dec) – The Jaycees, with the help of Santa Claus, go to the Salvation Army and provide lunch and presents for the families staying there.

Bean Bags & Blankets – We watch a movie that is chosen by the members and discuss it afterward.  This usually happens after our membership meeting.

Way Past Events

You might know us from the Peoria Jaycees Haunted House, Easter Egg Hunt, the Lawn Mower Clinic, Rock the Boat, cookouts, fireworks and so much more!
